A goth szupersztár, Amy Lee és együttese, az Evanescence nyerte az első helyért folytatott csatát a héten, legnagyobb kihívója a Las Vegas-i Killers volt. A The Open Door című második stúdióalbumával előrukkoló gothic rock zenekar 447 342 darabot értékesített a korongból, amivel máris közel kerültek az aranylemezzé váláshoz. Az arkansasi csapat gyökerei egészen 1998-ig nyúlnak vissza, amikor az énekesnő, Amy Lee megismerkedett Ben Moodyval. Kettesben eleinte akusztikus dalokat adtak elő a helyi könyvesboltokban és kávéházakban, miután rögzítettek két EP-t. Ezek a kiadványok nagy ritkaságszámba mennek, hiszen az első lemezből 100, míg a második korongból mindössze 50 darab készült.

Ennél már jóval nagyobb példányszámban került forgalomba Origin című demójuk, mely tartalmazott a Fallen című debütáló albumra is felkerült szerzemények közül néhányat. A nagy áttörést az A fenegyerek (Daredevil) című mozi filmzenealbumán is hallható Bring Me to Life című dal hozta meg a csapatnak, melynek köszönhetően a lemez a világ szinte összes országában eljutott a platinastátuszig. Amerikában a harmadik, a németeknél a második, a briteknél pedig egészen az első helyig felkapaszkodva. A siker és az európai turné kellős közepén azonban kivált a csapatból az alapító Ben Moody. Ennek következtében 2004 végén az Evanescence csak egy koncertalbummal tudta meglepni rajongóit, ami az Anywhere But Home címet kapta. Nem sokkal az új nagylemez megjelenése előtt újabb tagcsere történt, de úgy tűnik, ezek nincsenek nagy hatással a zenekar karrierjére. Első kislemezsikerként a Call Me When You're Sober című szerzemény került a listákra, ami szintén elég jó fogadtatásra talált.

Az Evanescence énekesnőjét, Amy Lee-t még mindig haragszik magára, amiért három évig megalázó kapcsolatban volt Ben Moody-val. Saját dalszövegei döbbentették rá, hogy ideje továbblépni. A páros, aki a goth együttest alapította, röviddel azelőtt szakított, mieltőtt Ben 2003-ban faképnél hagyta a bandát - Lee soha nem volt boldogabb. Most már tudja, hogy boldogabb is lehetett volna, ha észre veszi, milyen dalokat írt Moody-val. Az amerikai Spin magazinnak ezt nyilatkozta:

"Miután felvettük a dalokat, és visszahallgattam a saját szavaimat a Going Under-ben, és a kórusban azt szerettem volna hallani: 'Elmegyek, nem foglalkozom ezzel többet', ehelyett azt énekeltem: 'Süllyedek, elmerülök benned'. Ekkor azt gondoltam, tudom, mit kellene tennem, de nem teszem meg."

Lee bevallja, hogy azon az éjszakán, amikor Ben kilépett az Evanescence-ből, Amy nem marasztalta. Hozzáteszi:

"Ben-nél minden a dráma körül forog. Sok irritáló dolgot tett, így már semmit nem lepődök meg. Ben egy igazán boldogtalan ember. Mint amikor szerencsétlen vagy, és nem akarod, hogy más boldog legyen, ha te sem vagy az. Szóval, amikor velünk volt, úgy éreztük magunkat, mintha valami lehúzna minket. Őrzük képeket arról a napról. Szédülten néztük meg."

Lee elmondta, hogy a 2004-es Grammy-díjkiosztó óta nem beszéltek egymással.
